Freiburg

February 7th, 2015

Roaming free in Freiburg!

GERMANY!! Check a third country off my list (France, Switzerland, Germany)
Wir sprechen Deutsch, ya? ya ya ya eins zwei drei, links, recht

Once in Germany, it is hard to keep the conversation in English, but I didn't mind. I always want to practice German. I mostly just ordered food in German, which meant fumbling sounds and nodding.

We used the Deutsche Bahn (DB) instead of the SNCF, which meant no delays for once! It had a layover though, which really can't bother you when you paid 12.5 Euros for a round trip. WIN!

Our layover was in Offenburg for 40 minutes. It was a great, sunny day! We walked through the marketplace where there are all these cute stalls that sell all kinds of food: from fruits and vegetables, to cheeses, to sausages and sweets. I was really tempted to buy something but I was keeping my appetite for lunch.

So much sun, must squint!
Ah... selfie 101: the sun should be in front, not behind
Oh hey, look, there's a cathedral
Cute style housing around the marketplace

Cute people, in front of the cute style housing
More friends joined the travel group this weekend: Andreas from Austria and Verena from Germany (not in this picture)

45 minutes later we were in Freiburg im Breisgau.

First site: Martinstor
It once was part of the walls of the city

We looked at it quickly and then we leaped to our first priority: FOOD!
We ate pizza in an Italian restaurant just to the left of this tour. Es hat geschmeckt! Delizioso! (we were really really hungry, so maybe it wasn't THAT good)

We met up with another student from the exchange that has lived in Freiburg for 8 years, her name is Carina and she gave us the grand tour! Perfekt! First, she brought us to the cathedral, the Freiburg Münster. I didn't take a picture close and upfront but you can just Google that :P
 *Cue in the angels singing*
The ceilings are always so high, more than you would think from the outside.
The two Michelles :)

Now for the outside

It is important to irrigate the water off the roof, especially through the canal of the statue butt...
hahahahahahaha
The Marketplace; very similar to the style in Basel
Me and my lover

We then continued to walk around the centre city

SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CITY! Sehr schön <3

And then came the quest for a Torte (cake).
The city is next to the Black Forest, so one must eat Black Forest Cake

We went to the Ritz Carlton of Freiburg: Colombi Hotel Café

I had to take it to go... it was prettier in the store
Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte
Oooooh om nom nom nom

On the streets we passed by this sign, very cute... maybe a little grammatically wrong

Then started the hike to the belvedere

It made me nostalgic of my hikes up the Mount Royal in Montreal
We timed our hike with the sunset

 ignore the finger -__-
 WE MADE IT!
#1 selfie with my Lover
#2 selfie with the cathedral (we're just friends)

And the sun came down in the sunniest city of Germany and it was time for more food
Bratwurst = hot dog only besser
Finally got food from a street stall

And then we grocery shopped (food is cheaper in Germany) and had a quick and safe (and noisy) trip home :)

There was a football (soccer) game in Freiburg and all the rowdy, drunk fans sung obscenities in German in our train. Entertaining, but loud.

Auf Wierdersehen Freiburg
I fell in love (sorry Lisa)
I guess I have a thing for anything German ;)
