Slovenia

I have been so laaaazy and busy that I haven't gotten around to describing my last trip in Europe. Here goes

June 4th to 7th

In Vienna. the Brobro and I met up with our cousins to do a nature in Slovenia for the long weekend! We are so grateful that Gernot did all the organizing for such an amazing trip! We were also happy to have their sixteen-year-old friend, Phuong join us whom we met at their wedding! Fun time :)

Thursday, June 4th

The first day was a nice drive to a natural Slovenian area where we booked some canyoning. Not canoening, canYONing. (it took me a while to get it). On the drive there, we were fascinated by this super clear and serene lake.

Dat lake doe...

Watching our step in the water... some painful rock bed there was down there

Checking for glass on the island. We found ruins of we do not know what

Phuong all casual and comfortable as we, once  again are staring down at our feet which are wrecked at this point haha
What a gorgeous day it was!

Then we rushed to the canyoning before sun down or else we wouldn't be able to see where we were going. This is the exact route that we took in the canyon : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDuRmBsPTng

At first it is pretty scary to jump but it's all about letting go and knowing everything will be fine. If I were to do it a second time, I think I would be able to completely let go and be freeeeeeee.

Our guide through the canyon was hilarious. We still do not know if he was doing it on purpose... He had a dry humour as Gernot put it. Saying things seriously, and it was difficult to know if he was joking or not. Gullible as I am, it could have become dangerous when he told me to jump off of dangerous cliffs -____-

We rested up well in a luxurious apartment. After supper, I was fighting to keep my eyes open after such a sunny and active day. :)

Friday, June 5th

I thought that the lake water was blue and translucent but the waterfall that we visited this morning was a 1000% more pure and aweinspiring.

Here is our walk up to it

Besties :)

So pretty

We passed by a river with kayakers. I wondered how they could be in long sleeves on such a hot summer day... but we later discovered how freezing cold that water was as we tried to take a dip

A thin and precarious bridge over the river. All that sun making us squint

Those are the rocks that we settled on later on

Gorgeous

And the walk to the waterfall continues

we so strong am I right

Opening to the waterfall

The guys took a dip but the girls refrained and watched from a distance. ICE COLD

Before we went on with our day we ended spending over an hour by the river.

Hi Brobro! Enjoying that ice cold water? Wishing for a wet suit about now?

I hung around on this rock mostly

We could have spent the whole day here!

The swimming and the cold sure worked up our appetite. Luckily, we were in for a treat. Gernot found this AAAAMAZING restaurant. Very local, very gourmet, very delicious :) There were cheeses from the region but their speciality was a home made ham omnomnom

This was the second course of 4 I think

Before heading to our apartment near Piran we took a little tour of a small city that had a large garden and a nice view.

 So breathtaking :D

One of my favourite pictures of the trip
We're just so cute :3

In the evening, we visited the city in which we were staying to take a walk by the seashore. There was a film festival going on and so there was a public party in a park with yummy food and a DJ. It took Phuong and I a lot of time but we finally got the nerve to go dance in front of the DJ. It was so hipster and fun! Too bad we couldn't stay long. We were pretty tired from our day.

Saturday, June 6th

We had somewhat of a beach day which was fantastic :) It was my first contact with the Mediterranean Sea of my Europe trip. The water clear and blue and delightfully salty.

On our way to the car from the beach there was a cute wedding and the weather was perfect for it.

Our afternoon was spent in the touristy town Piran, known for it's contact with the sea and great seafood.

First thing's first, we went on a hunt for food
Got the seafood platter because. of course it was the most appropriate.
In Piran (and in Slovenia, generally), there are many Austrian and German tourists and so we were surprised to find waiters that were more fluent in German than English. Gernot just gave up on English haha (Robert and I just stared blankly).

There was a scuba diving wedding. You can see the groom ahead and the bride in the red hair. A very creative idea. However, we were dying of heat in our tank tops and shorts; walking around in a wet suit under a wedding dress seemed insufferable.

In the evening, we made it to our Airbnb in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It's a really hip city with a great vibe :)

Two guys were dressed as the Powerpuff Girls! which is AWESOME. I got the nerve to go talk to them to ask if that was in fact what they were doing (they were Blossom and Bubbles) and they offered Robert to dress as the third one (Buttercup). We politely declined :P I wish I had taken a picture with them.

FOOD

It was the finals for a Soccer tournament (I forget if it was a European or a World competition :S) Everyone was out at bars, restaurants and pubs. This screen was projected on the façade of the canal to cater to a terrasse on a similar level on the other side of the canal which was part of a restaurant as well as any passerbys. A lot of projection screens in the city. The tournament is really what gave the city it's energy that night. In Canada, we (excluding myself) only get hyped like this for Hockey and it's too cold outside to do things like this.

Sunday, June 7th

Our last day of the long weekends and so our last day in Slovenia :(

We got to tour Ljubljana in the daytime. The city was full of cute shops and sidewalk sales.

Sugar-coated almonds! Derricious and nutritious

This cute shop had all the useless but adorable things that are always tempting to buy. I actually a big fan of these wall blossoms... I'm sure I can find some on the internet ;)

Really cool artisanal ice cream shop

And so conclude my memories of our delightful trip in Slovenia.
Thanks for all the amazing high resolution pictures Gernot!!
